# Pricing - Discounts - Spartoo (Shopify)

**Spartoo > Pricing > Discounts**

A discount rule marks a product as reduced on Spartoo. The shopper sees the original price and the reduced price. A price rule, under **Prices**, only changes the price that is sent.

## Before you write a rule

Discounts are sent only if **Apply discounts** is on, under **General Settings**.

**Discount source**, in the same section, chooses where the reduction comes from.

* **Shop discount** — the rules on this tab are used.
* **Compare-at price** — the shop’s compare-at price is sent as the original price, and the current price as the reduced price. Rules on this tab are not read. The simulation says: **Discount rules are not applied at the moment: the discount settings do not take discounts from rules.**

With **Compare-at price**, a discount is sent only if the compare-at price is higher than the price. The period runs from today for 7 days. It is recalculated each time products are sent.

## Add a rule

Click **Add rule**.

**Rule name**, **Match**, and **Conditions** work like the other rule screens. The fields are **Category**, **Product type**, **Tag**, and **Brand**, with **is** or **contains**. Match is **all conditions** or **any condition**.

**Applies to** is one field, **Amount**. This screen has no increase or decrease choice, no percentage, and no price tiers. Those settings are on the **Prices** tab.

Do not enter a plain number in this field. It is not taken off the price, and the product may then fail to leave in the feed. If the shop already has a compare-at price, leave the source on **Compare-at price**.

Before you save, **Simulation** lists the products the rule covers.

## Order of the rules

Rules are read in the order they were created. The first one that matches is the only one used.

## Prices and discounts

The price rule is applied first. The discount is then added to that price. Both amounts are converted from the shop currency.

You can check one product under **Products**, with **Preview feed**, before you send the whole catalogue.
